in order to fully understand a child, the therapist must understand the system the child lives in and the generations of systems that existed before them. involving children in family therapy provides a more accurate assessment of dynamics, attachment patterns, and roles. family play therapy is offered as a means to blend talk and expressive therapies to enhance communication, understanding, and emotional relatedness within families.

CPRT - child parent relationship therapy

child-parent relationship therapy (CPRT) is a play therapy-based treatment program for young children presenting with behavioral, emotional, social, and attachment disorders. CPRT is a systemic intervention grounded in child centered play therapy theory, attachment principles, and interpersonal neurobiology. CPRT is based on the premise that a secure parent-child relationship is the essential factor for a child's well-being.

MIM - marschak interaction method

the marschak interaction method (MIM) is a structured observation technique developed by marianne marschak to assess the quality and nature of child-caregiver relationship:  engagement, nurture, challenge, and structure. the MIM is a semi-structured videotaped caregiver-child observation which is designed to elicit different aspects of the relationship know to be important in terms of the child’s development.
