every once in a while you get that special young child, preteen, or teen, who doesn’t want to play, rather they want to sit on the couch and talk like they’ve seen in the movies. Or maybe, they have a very specific fear that would be treated with exposure response therapy, DBT, or an integrative approach. fox & acorn child therapy tailors its therapeutic approach to the specific needs of the child.
child and therapist meet at an outdoor trail to engage in a walk & talk session. based on the concept of shinrin-yoku, japanese forest bathing, this is a mindfulness-based therapy that can reduce anxiety, depression, mitigate ruminating, and release physical tensions. this setting is particularly helpful for clients who feel less comfortable in a traditional therapy office setting. walking in parallel with sensory stimulation rather than sitting face to face may allow for increased engagement.
a child’s environment plays a crucial role in their mental health. unfortunately, some environments have trouble listening to children. through coordination of care with other providers, fox and acorn child therapy ensures that the child is being heard in their different environments. through school observations, attending IEP & 504 plan meetings, and collaborating with the child’s entire care team, we aim to help environments to do their part in supporting the child’s growth.
